Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, cubed
  • 2 Tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil spray
  • Sugar and cinnamon mixture for coating (1/4 cup sugar + 1/2 tsp cinnamon)

Instructions

1. Prep the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C).

2. Make the Churro Dough:

In a saucepan, combine water, butter, sugar, and salt. Bring to a simmer over medium-low heat, stirring constantly until the butter melts.

Once simmering, increase heat to medium-high and add the flour all at once. Stir vigorously until the dough forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan.

Remove from heat and let the dough cool for 5-7 minutes.

3. Add Eggs:

Transfer the dough to a stand mixer (or a large bowl) and beat on medium speed until smooth.

Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.

Stir in vanilla extract.

4. Pipe the Churros:

Fit a pastry bag with a large star tip and fill it with the churro dough.

Pipe 3-4 inch long churro strips onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Freeze the piped churros for 30 minutes to set.

5. Air Fry the Churros:

Carefully transfer the frozen churros to the preheated air fryer basket, leaving space between them.

Lightly spray the churros with oil.

Air fry for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown. You might need to cook in batches depending on your air fryer size.

6. Coat in Cinnamon Sugar:

While the churros are cooking, combine sugar and cinnamon in a shallow bowl.

As soon as the churros come out of the air fryer, immediately toss them in the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat.

7. Serve and Enjoy!

Serve your churros warm with your favorite dipping sauce like chocolate or caramel.

Tips

  • You can also refrigerate the piped churros instead of freezing them, for at least 1 hour.
  • If your churros don’t puff up much in the air fryer, it might be because the dough wasn’t cooked long enough after adding the flour. Try cooking it for an additional minute next time.
  • Churros are best enjoyed fresh, but they can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. Reheat in the air fryer for a few minutes to crisp them up again.
